How do I cancel a podcast?
We get it. Sometimes a show comes to the end of its run, or you need to focus attention on other parts of your life, and you no longer have the need for your podcast.
If that's ever the case with you, we're here for you to make that as simple as possible, while also offering you some choices to ensure you're making the right decision.
Click on Podcast Settings (make sure you're in the right podcast if you have several)
Scroll to the bottom of that page, and click on Cancel Show
You will then have two options to choose from.
### Moving a podcast to another host
Important: you need to move your episodes to your new host before cancelling on Captivate. Make sure you follow their instructions to import all your episodes, and check that they've been moved over before following the steps below.
Note: since podcast analytics don't transfer between hosts, you'll need to download your current Captivate analytics first. You can download the following reports:
Podcast analytics:
Daily trends
How they listen
Where they listen
Downloads by episode
Individual episode analytics:
Daily trends
How they listen
Where they listen
Change the date range for each report to All Time, and then click the download icon:
This will download a CSV file for each report.
Once this is done, you can continue to close your podcast and move to the new host.
check the Moving option
complete the info on the next screen - RSS redirect, which is the new host's RSS feed so we can point your old Captivate one there, which host it is (use "Other" if not listed), and any feedback you wish to leave
check the two disclaimer boxes for the 301 redirect and that you've removed any dynamic ads or content from your show
click Move Podcast
That's it - your podcast has now been moved and redirected. Because the podcast has been closed, you'll no longer be able to access your Captivate dashboard (unless you have more podcasts still active with us).
If you're stopping podcasting altogether, and are happy for the show to be deleted when you cancel your account, this is the option you'd choose.
Note: choosing this option will not only see your podcast deleted from Captivate, but also Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc, so be sure this is the option you wish to select.
check the Deleting option
leave any feedback you wish to offer
check the three disclaimer boxes
click Delete Podcast
And that's it - your podcast is now deleted from Captivate and the various podcast apps. It's removed from Captivate immediately - due to how podcast apps cache media files, etc, it may take some time to be deleted from those.
Once you've closed your podcast, you then need to cancel your billing account so you don't continue to be charged. You can follow these steps to cancel your Captivate account (this is only if you have one podcast - if you have multiple and you're only removing one podcast, you'll continue to be billed as normal.
