How to Enable Apple Video Podcasts on Captivate
Publishing and distributing video podcasts to Apple Podcasts is simple with Captivate - here's how to enable the feature on your account.
Note: Only paid accounts can enable video podcasting.
Before you start, you’ll need to have claimed your podcast on Podcasts Connect, and created an API Key, in order to connect both to your Captivate dashboard - follow these steps to set this up.
- click Podcast Settings
- click Video Podcasts
- if you don’t currently have your Apple Podcasts Connect API connected to Captivate, click Connect Apple API
- the Apple Integration fly-out will be displayed, where you can add your Apple Key ID (note: if you haven’t already created your keys, you can do that following these steps)
- paste the Apple Key ID into the box
- click Save Changes
That's it - your Apple Podcasts API Key is connected to Captivate. If you haven't already claimed your show on Podcasts connect, you'll need to do that first in order to access the Video Podcast Bandwidth Calculator. Follow these steps to claim your podcast.
If you've already claimed your podcast, you can now view our Video Podcast Bandwidth Calculator, that provides you estimated bandwidth costs based on publishing frequency, episode duration, and monthly downloads.
To begin publishing, you just need to enable the Video Podcast add-on.
- click Add Apple Video Podcast Add-On
- a pop up will appear advising you’re about to enable this feature, and the pro-rated amount until the end of your current billing period
- click Sign up for video podcasting
- the pro-rated amount will be charged to your card, and you’re now set up to publish video episodes to Apple Podcasts
Now, under Podcast settings > Video Podcasts, you can see and set the following:
- your current bandwidth usage (only displayed if you go over the free 1,000 video podcast downloads you receive each month)
- your default medium format (audio or video), which will set the default file upload display when creating new episodes
- your Usage Safeguard, that lets you set the maximum bandwidth you want to use (to help manage your costs). When this is set, we'll send warning emails (and notifications in your Captivate dashboard) when usage reaches 50%, and then again when it reaches 90%
