How to Publish Video Episodes via Captivate to Apple Podcasts Using HLS
With Apple HLS, publishing video podcasts from Captivate to Apple Podcasts is as simple as uploading your video file and publishing using the normal episode publishing workflow.
Note: by default, video files are processed at 720p for Apple HLS publishing to help you manage bandwidth costs. If you'd like to publish at 1080p, contact our support team via the little chat icon at the bottom right of your Captivate dashboard.
- log in to your Captivate dashboard
- click Create New Episode
- ensure Video Episode is toggled on
- drag and drop your video file (or upload directly from your computer) to the Upload Video File box
- once uploaded, this will display a preview of the video
- since Apple HLS uses the audio from the video file when playing the audio version on Apple Podcasts, you can also upload a separate audio file for your RSS feed, that will be played on other podcast apps
- continue to complete your episode details (title, show notes, etc) and then either publish or schedule for later
The video file will now be transcoded for HLS, and will publish once that transcoding has been completed (larger files will take longer to process).
And that’s it - your video episode is now on its way to Apple Podcasts, while the different audio version for your RSS feed (if you use that feature) is submitted to the other podcast apps and platforms your podcast is published to.
