Campaign Management FAQs
Using Captivate’s Campaign Management tool to manage your dynamic content, sponsor messages, and more is super easy. Questions about how Campaigns work? We’ve got you covered!
What is Captivate Campaign Management?
Campaign Management is essentially AMIE v2. Building on our original AMIE platform, this upgrade lets you create and manage campaigns for your dynamic content and ads, including geo-targeting and impressions reporting.
Can I use both the original AMIE and Campaign Management?
No - Campaign Management is a fully upgraded experience, so you would either continue to use AMIE v1 or upgrade to use all the benefits of Campaign Management.
So what’s the difference between AMIE and Campaign Management?
AMIE allows any podcaster, regardless of audience size, to take advantage of dynamic content for their shows (pre roll, mid roll, post roll). Campaign Management takes that to the next level, with the ability to run multiple ad and sponsor campaigns, prioritize ad placement, set end dates, geo-target which listeners receive your campaigns, set max impressions for a campaign, and more.
What are max impressions?
Each time an episode with ads / dynamic content is played, or the ad is “served”, that counts as an impression. Think of it as how many times an ad is delivered to a listener. Setting a “max impression” limit means that ad will stop playing once that number has been reached (so, 5,000 max impressions as an example).
What is geo-targeting?
This is a great feature that allows you to tailor dynamic content to a specific audience, based on what country they’re in. A super simple example would be to have a message for your US listeners for July 4 celebrations, and target that only to US listeners - all other listeners will receive the normal ad you might have in place for that slot. To use geo-targeting in this way, you can set up multiple campaigns for seasonal messages, cultural messages, etc, set the country (or countries) each campaign is to be targeted to, and run all at the same time. Listeners in each country will receive the ad message specific to their country.
So how do I access Campaign Management?
It’s as simple as accessing the Campaigns section in your Captivate dashboard, and upgrading to Campaign Management. Before you do that, though, you’ll just need to confirm you accept the changes this will make to your current AMIE use.
What are these changes?
Because Campaign Management is a full upgrade with many new features, we need to make some changes to ensure your Campaigns and files meet ad requirements.
- for publishing, we’ll convert all audio to 128kbps stereo
- convert any existing ad content / AMIE files to support the new Campaign Management format
- set up new Campaigns based on your current ad markers
So if I upload in 192kbps, that’s no longer the case?
Your original uploaded file will remain at that bitrate in your content library, it’s just the published version we’ll convert to 128kbps to match audio requirements for ads.
Do I need to add new time stamps for my dynamic content after I switch to Campaign Management?
No - your existing slots will remain where they are now, and if you use mid rolls these will remain at the same time stamp. But now it’s even easier to manage these existing campaigns as well as create new ones.
How is it easier?
While AMIE v1 makes it easy to manage and change dynamic files at bulk, Campaign Management simplifies this even more. Instead of needing to bulk update pre, mid, and post roll dynamic content, now you simply update the specific campaign, and all ad / dynamic content inserts will be updated quickly and smoothly.
How long do campaigns run?
That’s entirely up to you! Whether you’re running ads, sponsor messages, promo swaps with other podcasters, or internal promos for an online course of yours, you can choose when to start and end a campaign, or even just update an existing one.
Do Campaigns run on every episode?
Only if you want them to - when creating a Campaign, you can choose delivery options on the Campaign Content section:
- By Season: if your podcast episodes are in seasons, choose whether to run in all seasons or specific.
- By Type: choose whether to include Campaigns on just your full episodes, or also Bonus Content and Trailer(s).
- By Date: choose whether the campaign runs across all episodes since the very first date your podcast was published, or just certain dates (great for seasonal promos, or quarterly promos, etc).
How long does it take new / updated campaigns to appear on already published episodes?
To ensure we meet the IAB guidelines (the industry standard for podcast measurement) for reporting analytics, we cache a listener’s set of ads for 24 hours. So the previous Campaign will be heard until after that time frame, after which the new Campaign will be heard.
If I change to Campaign Management, and then decide I preferred the older AMIE, can I switch back?
No, sorry - since this is a complete overhaul of the existing AMIE platform, it’s coded differently so you would need to remain on Campaign Management once you convert your show to this feature.
How much does all this cost?
Campaign Management is completely free, and part of your existing Captivate plan - just our way of continuing to bring awesome growth tools to all our podcasters, regardless of show size and age of podcast!
