How to Use Geo-targeting to Create Multiple Campaigns for Different Countries

With Campaign Management, Captivate makes it simple to run different types of campaigns for your podcast (sponsor messages, internal promos, seasonal messaging, etc).

While you can run individual campaigns, using geo-targeting to creating multiple campaigns running at the same time across different countries can make your promotions even more effective, allowing you to deliver personalized content relevant to listeners of that country.

To create multiple campaigns, you’ll create each the same way you’d create a new campaign, with the difference being which country you deliver the campaign to in the Delivery section.

  • Under the Monetization section in your dashboard, click Campaigns
  • Click Create Campaign

This takes you to the Campaign Builder, where you add the campaign overview, delivery, placement, and review everything before setting it live.

Overview

This is where you’ll set up the name of your campaign, and how long you want it to run for.

  • Name - make it something that’s easy to remember for when reviewing multiple campaigns
  • Description - this can be used to describe campaign goals, sponsor requirements, etc
  • Start date and time - when the campaign will start playing on your podcast
  • Optional end date - if the campaign has a limited run, you can set an end date here
  • click Next Step

Delivery

This is where you’ll choose the specific county / countries to include and which to exclude, as well as what episodes to include the campaign in.

  • by default, all countries are selected - to enable a specific country or countries, deselect all, and then use the Search filter to find the country you want to send this campaign to
  • choose which episodes to include this campaign on - you can select by season if you run seasons, by type of episode, or by date
  • choose whether to include this campaign on future episodes by default
  • click Next Step

Placements

This is where you’ll add the content for your campaign - you can either upload as you create the campaign, or add to your Ad Content Library ready to use when creating a campaign.

  • click Add Placement for the section you want to add (pre roll, mid roll, or post roll)
  • on the fly out, add your content by either uploading your mp3 file from your hard drive, or from the Ad Content Library
  • if adding from the library, click Select for the file you want to add
  • choose your ad max impression limit if you want to use this - this lets you choose how many impressions the ad gets, after which it’ll be turned off. This is usually agreed between you and your sponsor(s)
  • click Add to Campaign
  • repeat the steps if you want to add more ads to your Campaign
  • once done, click Next Step

Review

Now’s the time to check your campaign has all the required elements (what type of placement it is, what content is included, any max impression limits, etc). Once satisfied with the settings, click Create Campaign.

Your campaign is now active, and ready to use and run alongside your existing active campaigns. Because you’ve set a country specific delivery for this new campaign, though, only listeners in that country will receive this - listeners in other countries will receive your existing campaign.

This is perfect for seasonal content (a special July 4 message for US listeners while everyone else receives your usual pre roll, as an example), or if you’re visiting a country to promote your new book, you can let listeners in that country know while listeners elsewhere will receive the general campaign you have in place.

If you want to run multiple campaigns at the same time for different countries specifically, simply repeat the above steps and just set each country for each new campaign.
