Now that you've set up your Basic Settings, Header, Team, and Email Opt-In features on your Captivate Website, it's time to make sure that new listeners can find it!

Our SEO & Sharing section lets you give your show the perfect descriptive and SEO-friendly content to stand out on Google and other search engines.

Simply log in to your Captivate dashboard, and have the SEO & Sharing tab open in the Captivate Sites section. Here, you'll find three options:

  • Website Meta

  • SEO & Analytics Settings

  • Social Sharing

Let's dig in!

Website Meta

Website Meta is the information about your website that search engines use when displaying your site in their search results.

It's made up of two areas:

  • Title

  • Description

Title

This is where you can enter an SEO-friendly version of the name of your show. You want to keep this simple and short (under 60 characters).

Description

This is where you can describe your show in more detail. The information here appears in box underneath your show on Google and other search engines. Use this to entice listeners by explaining what your show's about - but don't keyword stuff, as Google could penalize you and remove your listing from its search engine. Look to use no more than 320 characters for this section

SEO & Analytics Settings

Just like any website, you want to know how much traffic is coming to your website, what episodes they're listening to, what the bounce rate is, and more.

Our SEO & Analytics Settings makes it easy to connect your Google Analytics account, as well as add a Facebook Tracking Pixel, if you want to understand your Facebook visitors better.

Google verification

This is optional - since your website is hosted by Captivate, you don't need to verify ownership. However, if you do wish to, simply follow this Google Verification guide to get your verification meta tag.

Google analytics

A standard in web analytics, Google Analytics makes it easy to track your website visitors, and what they do when on your site.

If you don't have a Google Analytics account, you can quickly and easily create one here. Google also has a great guide for getting started with analytics.

Once you have your account set up, you need to create a report (called Property on Google Analytics) for your Captivate website. This is where you'll enter your Captivate website URL (using the "https://" prefix), choose your category, and make sure the reporting time zone is the same as your podcast.

Once you've created your report, you need to copy paste your tracking code into the empty box in the Google analytics section on Captivate.

To get this tracking code, follow these steps when logged in to your Google Analytics account.

  • Click Home on your Google Analytics account

  • Click Admin at the bottom left of the screen

  • Click Tracking Info under the Create Property tab

  • Click Tracking Code

  • Copy the complete code in the Global Site Tag box

  • Paste that code into the Captivate Google analytics box

  • Click Save

That's it - your Google Analytics tracking code is set up, and within 24 hours you can start to see data about your website traffic.

Social Sharing

To ensure your website stands out when sharing its URL on social media, you can upload an image here that will be shown anytime you share your site on Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Get creative here, to capture the attention of any potential listeners. A large, bold image with some text on it can really sing!

For the dimensions, we recommend using an image of 1200px by 628px in a .png file, to avoid any compression when sharing it on social media.
